So you want to know the history of Astria Legends? Well I am glad you asked, I'd be happy to share the story with you. Amanda Reaves (pen name: TAE) was always an avid artist and writer, but normally her stories never went beyond a couple of pages (a VERY short, short story). From fanciful cities in the stars to her own star trek ships and crews to old-fashioned magical journeys, TAE dappled in them all. Her first completed story was STAR CITY, which was entered in a competition throughout her highschool and was the last one cut before the winner was chosen.
It wasn't until the late 90's that she really begun to formulate her own characters and in-depth stories. These resulted in tons of cute characters taken after the pokemon fad that was going on around that time. This is the time she first experimented with trading cards and game mechanics to create her own collectible card game. Unfortunately, being far too similar to pokemon, the cast of characters never really got a fanbase and thus in 1999 they were abandoned.
Starting in 1999, TAE, being influenced by the large fanbase of Sailor Moon at her high school and her love for Rainbow Brite, created her first own magical girl team. The first installment of color driven characters was born under the name GALAXY ANGELS. The story was based around the idea of a rainbow that broke into a set of keys, which turned the ordinary girls into ones with elemental powers.
The characters soon evolved from being human to anthropormorphic animals, which TAE found to be a lot more comfortable to draw. The characters stayed with their same names and elements and soon TAE was ready to write their story. Looking for motivation and inspiration, she stumbled upon some anime/manga magazines and learned that there was already a manga with the name Galaxy Angels. Being a resourceful person, she changed the name from Galaxy Angels to UNIVERSAL ANGELS.
During the time of writing the UA story, TAE found that the strict boundaries of the magical story genre were weighing down on her. So she sat the computer, with a blank document and started to type a story that was whatever came into her mind. There was no concise beginning or end, and the three chapters that sprung from it were not chronological or even included the same characters. It was a refreshing break from her normal writing. She titled the three chapters Freedom, Wonders and True Colors and the story ANGEL WINGS. Then she put it away, on a backburner.
By this time is was late 2000 - early 2001, when she became more intrigued at the in-depth plots and storylines many animes had, and desired to create something truly unique without the familiar influences she'd used in the past. She'd also been struggling with writing the fight-central stories that UA demanded and wanted a break. She wanted something truly her own, and thus the story ASHIA was born. This was her second completed story and the first that was more than a couple of pages. While the characters weren't superheroes, they did take the color driven elemental magic from UA and gave it an entirely new meaning. The colors became the woven fabric of the world and the characters were the colors' avatars. It was originally slated to be a trilogy, but the second story never got past the first chapter.
In 2003, TAE joined deviantart and the mass exposure to wonderful artists and new friends who shared her same passion for creativity, changed her life and her story paths forever. While Ashia was her first delve into true originality, it was still far too much of a romance novel for her tastes, and UA too much a cliche superhero story. Finally deciding to drop both stories she remembered AngelWings and re-read the chapters she wrote so long ago. Seeing the wide range of opportunity in the three chapters, she began to develop the world, universe and species that the three chapters begun to describe.
As the story grew, she felt a name change was needed for it as well...something more unique to what the story had become. She named it after the world she created and a sum of the general storyline. It became ASTRIA LEGENDS. She made sure to include the color tied world she'd created in UA and Ashia, but expanded it far more. It wasn't a superhero story, or a romance novel. It was something truly unique. Instead of avatars, the colors themselves became living breathing beings, angels of the galaxy. God blessed it and inspired her to make their adversaries Sins, which also became living breathing beings. And from this, the journey truly begins.
